Record your first session with just your phone
Last updated 8 days ago
You don't need any hardware to start. Your phone's GPS is enough for lap times, a track map, and coaching.
Steps
- Mount your phone securely in the kart or car, with a clear view of the sky. A pocket works poorly; a dash or chassis mount works well.
- Open the Record tab and choose Phone GPS as the source.
- Wait for a GPS fix, then start recording. Keep the screen on — the app keeps it awake while recording, and most phones stop delivering GPS with the screen off.
- Drive your session.
- Stop recording when you're done. The session saves to Sessions automatically.
Open the session to see your laps, the track map, sector times, and your first coaching insight.
Tips
- The app identifies the circuit automatically from your position — no setup needed at known tracks.
- Phone GPS updates about once per second. That's plenty for lap times and your line; for sharper data, a RaceBox records at a much higher rate. See Record with a RaceBox.
- Turn off battery-saver mode before a session; it can throttle GPS.
Next steps
